Before arriving in Oakland, Guerrero hadn’t registered a double since Aug. 4 in Kansas City. He totaled only one since July 30.

Guerrero is 9-for-21 with seven RBIs since Aug. 11.

The Orioles had been outscored, 87-40, in the first inning before today, and by 83 runs over the first three innings. A fast start is a refreshing change.

The Orioles immediately lost their lead. Oakland loaded the bases with no outs in the bottom of the first, and left fielder Nolan Reimold froze on Josh Willingham’s liner that was hit directly at him, letting it clear his head for a two-run double.

The game was tied after four batters.

The A’s had the lead after five batters, with Brandon Allen lifting a sacrifice fly to right.

Update II: Brandon Allen tripled over Adam Jones’ head in the third inning and raced home when the Orioles’ center fielder failed to pick up the ball cleanly and accidentally kicked it.

Simon has allowed six hits, walked one and hit a batter. He’s been charged with four earned runs.

Simon isn’t especially sharp today, but his outfield hasn’t done him any favors.
