A few things went wrong in their 6-5 loss at Oakland:

* After taking a 2-0 lead in the top of the first, Alfredo Simon and his defense gave it right back as Oakland scored three in the last of the first. That rally included Nolan Reimold misplaying the ball on a line to drive…It’s one to thing to lose a game, but yet another to look bad and greatly contribute to your own demise. A few things went wrong in their 6-5 loss at Oakland:

* After taking a 2-0 lead in the top of the first, Alfredo Simon and his defense gave it right back as Oakland scored three in the last of the first. That rally included Nolan Reimold misplaying the ball on a line to drive to left by Josh Willingham that he failed to catch. It was scored a two-run double.

* In the third, Adam Jones saw Brandon’s Allen drive to center carom off the wall past him back toward the infield. When he got to the ball, he fumbled it as Allen circled the bases for another run. That one was scored triple and an error.

* In the sixth, the MASN cameras caught J.J. Hardy jogging to first on a groundball to second base. No one has been able to question Hardy’s hustle or production this year, so it looked out of place to see him not run hard to first.

* Trailing 6-4 in the 7th, the Orioles had runners on first and third and no outs. The next three batters failed to score or advance either runner with a shallow fly out by Craig Tatum and strikeouts by Robert Andino and Hardy.

* The game ended with pinch runner Blake Davis thrown out at the plate. He was trying to score from first on a Nick Markakis hit to right where the outfielder, David DeJesus, over ran the ball.

The loss today means the Orioles lost the last two games of this series after winning Monday. They still have not won a series since June 24-26 and yes, that is terrible. They have lost 13 series and tied one since then. They have now lost 13 straight road series since taking two of three from Tampa in mid May. Bad also.

Alfredo Simon struggled for the third start in a row and his ERA is now 7.47 over those outings after he had pitched to an ERA of 2.81 his previous four starts.

Orioles’ starting pitchers have just four quality starts over the last 19 games with an ERA of 6.77 in that stretch.

The Orioles fall to 18-39 on the road and 47-74 on the season.

It was another day where they lost. And, they looked bad in doing so.

A note from the minors: The MRA, it’s similar to an MRI, on the right elbow of minor league pitcher Clayton Schrader came back clean today, no major issues.

He won’t return to pitch this year but the news certainly could have been worse for the club’s 10th-round pick last year who was having a very good season. He was with Frederick, but had not pitched since August 2nd due to elbow discomfort.

He is 1-1 with an ERA of 1.13 over 24 innings for Frederick. Between Delmarva and Frederick this year, he pitched 46 innings allowing just 19 hits with 73 strikeouts.
