Jo-Jo Reyes almost gave up another run with two outs in the fifth inning, but Nick Markakis fielded Erick Aybar’s single and threw out Torii Hunter at the plate for his 12th outfield assist.
Brad Bergesen was warming in the bullpen and Reyes was probably facing his last batter. The left-hander has allowed five runs and eight hits in five innings, with three walks and six strikeouts. He’s thrown 97 pitches, 65 for strikes.
Four of those runs scored in the first inning.

The Orioles reduced the lead to 5-2 in the fifth on J.J. Hardy’s leadoff double, Markakis’ single and Adam Jones’ sacrifice fly.
Hardy is celebrating his 29th birthday today.
Update: The Orioles scored again in the seventh on Adam Jones’ second sacrifice fly of the night, but they left the bases loaded in the eighth against reliever Scott Down. Josh Bell struck out with the count full for the second out, and Hardy lined to right, making the Orioles 4-for-12 with runners in scoring position.
Hunter’s second home run, this one off reliever Willie Eyre in the seventh, gave the Angels a 7-3 lead. Bell and Hardy had a chance to tie the game with one swing, but they couldn’t do it.
Mike Trout homered off Kevin Gregg in the eighth to increase the lead to 8-3. Trout has two major league home runs, both against the Orioles.
Before tonight, the Orioles’ bullpen hadn’t surrendered a home run since July 30 (Jason Berken).
