Down 5-3 after three innings and 6-4 in the eighth, they rallied to tie this game in the eighth and went ahead 8-6 in the top of the 12th on Adam Jones’ fourth hit of the night.

On came Kevin Gregg and the lead was soon gone and moments later a promising rally had turned into just another loss.

Gregg gave up a single and a hit by pitch to the first two batters in the 12th to quickly put the tying runs on base. A…For a few minutes, anyway, it looked like the Orioles were changing the script.

Gregg gave up a single and a hit by pitch to the first two batters in the 12th to quickly put the tying runs on base. A Josh Bell throwing error on a sac bunt attempt further fueled the rally. Gregg later issued a bases-loaded walk to tie the game and blow the save.

Troy Patton came on but it was much too late. With the bases loaded and no outs, Bobby Abreu’s sac fly ended the game and Los Angeles celebrated a walk-off, 9-8 victory.

Over his last four games, covering just two innings, Gregg has allowed nine hits and eight runs. This came after the bullpen had pitched shutout ball after starter Tommy Hunter gave up six runs in 6 1/3 innings. Shutout ball until the bottom of the 12th.

By losing the last two nights, the Orioles have now lost another series. They are 0-14-1 in the last 15 series’ since taking two of three from the Reds June 24-26 at Camden Yards.

The Orioles have now lost 14 consecutive road series since mid-May, becoming the first team to lose 14 straight road series in a single season since the Cleveland Indians in 1985.

The Orioles have lost four in a row, 10 of 13 and 16 of their last 21 games. They are now 18-41 on the road and 47-76 on the season.

It looked like the Orioles were poised for a comeback win. Instead it was another blown game, another blown save and another night and early morning of frustration for the fans back home watching the late-night horror show.
