Bourjos is the son of Orioles scout Chris Bourjos, who is based in Scottsdale, Ariz. The elder Bourjos is a former major leaguer, having had a cup of coffee with the San Francisco Giants in 1980.

Bourjos is the son of Orioles scout Chris Bourjos, who is based in Scottsdale, Ariz. The elder Bourjos is a former major leaguer, having had a cup of coffee with the San Francisco Giants in 1980.

Chris Bourjos joined the Orioles’ scouting staff in 2010 after serving in a similar capacity with the Blue Jays (1984-2002) and Brewers (2003-2009). While working for Toronto, he was part of the team of scouts responsible for drafting Roy Halladay.

He also was Orioles property during his playing days, though he never made it to the majors with the O’s.

The Giants sent Bourjos and pitcher Bob Knepper to the Houston Astros for ex-Oriole Enos Cabell on Dec. 8, 1980. The Astros kept Bourjos only until April 1, 1981, when he was dealt to the Orioles along with cash for infielder Kiko Garcia. Bourjos batted .249 in 58 games for Triple-A Rochester in 1981, then split 1982 between Double-A Charlotte and the Red Wings, batting a combined .284 with 15 homers and 74 RBIs. He moved to Philadelphia’s Triple-A Portland affiliate in 1982, his last season as a pro.

Ironically, Peter Bourjos’ major league debut came – you guessed it – against the Orioles in his dad’s first season as a Birds’ scout. It happened Aug. 3, 2010 in Buck Showalter’s first game as the Orioles’ skipper. Bourjos went 0-for-3 in his debut, a 6-3 O’s victory.
