Wieters heats up on offense

For a while there, it seemed fair to speculate if Matt Wieters’ declining offensive statistics were tied to the heavy load of innings he has played this year at a most demanding position.
But after hitting just .235 in July with a .685 OPS, the Orioles’ catcher is having a big August. In 21 games, he is batting .316 with eight doubles, four homers, 13 RBIs and a .967 OPS.

Wieters now has at least one RBI in seven straight games. Over that stretch, he is 12-for-26 (.462) with four doubles, three homers and 10 RBIs.
Wieters had a double and three-run homer, his 14th on the year, three more than he had last year, in the O’s 12-5 win over the Yankees on Friday night.
A couple of others are heating up right now at bat also.
J.J. Hardy has five multi-hit games during a nine-game batting streak. He is batting .357 (15-for-42) during the stretch with two homers and 5 RBIs.
Robert Andino has hit safely in 11 of his last 12 games, batting .292 with 7 RBIs.
In five games since his recall from Triple-A, Ryan Adams is 7-for-18 (.389) with three doubles and two RBIs and has hit safely in all five games.
Nolan Reimold is 11-for-29 (.379) during a seven-game hitting streak with a homer and 8 RBIs.
As a team, the Orioles are batting .455 with runners in scoring position during their five-game win streak and they are batting .384 over the last 11 games with RISP.
