At his request, short-season Single-A Aberdeen IronBirds pitcher Matt Hobgood was examined today by Orioles orthopedist Dr. John Wilckens and no structural damage was found in his right shoulder and no further exam or MRI is scheduled.
For now, rest has been recommended and Hobgood, the club’s first-round draft pick in 2009, is expected to miss the remaining few games of the season.

For now, rest has been recommended and Hobgood, the club’s first-round draft pick in 2009, is expected to miss the remaining few games of the season.
The Orioles were hoping to send Hobgood to their instructional league workouts in Sarasota which start Sept. 15, but now that appears unlikely.
Hobgood, coming back from a strained rotator cuff, was not pitching well for Aberdeen with a record of 0-6 and ERA of 10.46. In 26 2/3 innings, he had given up 41 hits with 23 walks and 13 strikeouts.
Meanwhile, Double-A Bowie right-hander Bobby Bundy may not pitch again this year as he nears the innings limit the club had set for him back in spring training.
Bundy went 11-5 with a 2.75 ERA over 20 starts for Single-A Frederick and is 1-3 with a 9.00 ERA for Bowie. He has pitched 135 innings between the two clubs after pitching 116 for Single-A Delmarva last year.
Bundy is the older brother of Dylan Bundy, the high school pitcher the Orioles selected in the first-round of this year’s draft.
The preliminary Arizona Fall League rosters are out and five Orioles are listed on the Mesa Solar Sox roster including pitchers Sean Gleason and Chorye Spoone, catcher Brian Ward, first baseman Joe Mahoney and outfielder Xavier Avery. The rosters are subject to change almost right up until the league starts play in early October.
The Orioles are also expected to send LJ Hoes to the Fall League, possibly in part to work on his defense at second base, but his name was not listed today. They are also expected to send two more pitchers to the AFL.
