The Orioles are prepared to make a move to expand their roster by recalling left-hander The Orioles are prepared to make a move to expand their roster by recalling left-hander Zach Phillips from Triple-A Norfolk.
Phillips will head to Baltimore on Wednesday, but he won’t be officially recalled until Thursday. That’s when teams can add to their 25-man rosters.
Phillips, who’s already on the 40-man roster, will accompany the Orioles to Tampa after Thursday afternoon’s game.
The Orioles acquired Phillips from the Texas Rangers earlier this summer for infielder Nick Green. He’s 1-1 with a 2.63 ERA and one save in 14 relief appearances with the Tides, with 12 hits, seven walks and seven strikeouts in 13 2/3 innings.
The Orioles made room for Phillips on the 40-man roster after the trade by outrighting pitcher Chorye Spoone.
More 25-man roster expansion is coming, though the Orioles aren’t expected to bring in a lot of new players.
