The game started after 10 p.m. Wednesday after a rain delay of three hours and seven minutes. It ended at 12:44 a.m. Thursday at Harry Grove Stadium.

Now the Mills Cup final series shifts to Kinston for the remaining games the next three nights.

Aaron Baker’s RBI double in the first gave Frederick a 1-0 lead, but Kinston moved ahead with single runs in the fourth and seventh innings.

Down 2-1, Frederick’s Manny Machado singled to lead off the last of the eighth and he advanced to second on a fly out. With two outs, Miguel Abreu’s RBI single to center tied the game 2-2 with Abreu advancing to second on the throw home. Catcher Brian Ward followed with an RBI single for a 3-2 lead.

Until those huge hits in the eighth, Frederick had gone 0-for-7 with runners in scoring position.

Sean Gleason retired the side in order in the ninth to pick up the save for reliever Ryan O’Shea, who got the win. He gave up just one hit and a run over 4 2/3 after starter Rick Zagone pitched the first 3 1/3 innings.

Machado went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and is batting .375 in the playoffs.

In Game 3 on Thursday night at 6:30, Frederick will pitch righty Scott Copeland against Indian lefty Mike Rayl.
