The Orioles won’t get in a bidding war for Fielder, but the market may be softening for the slugger, which would allow teams on the peripheral to become involved. That includes the Orioles and Mariners.

Also, Duquette noted that manager Buck Showalter likes Nolan Reimold in left field. Perhaps the Orioles will add a left-handed hitting outfielder to platoon with Reimold or simply back him up. Either way, it appears that Reimold fits into the team’s 2012 plans.

Also, Brady Anderson apparently will take on a larger role with the Orioles, including some scouting assignments.

Update: The Orioles do hold some interest in Fielder, but ensuing reports seem to be exaggerating the level. He’s not viewed as a big priority. But again, Duquette will keep an eye on the market.

As for Anderson, the Orioles are expected to finally give him a title in the organization, though it’s tricky because he’s got a variety of responsibilities. He’ll continue to work with players on their hitting, fielding and baserunning, and he’ll also do some scouting.

Anderson continues to train Brian Matusz and Nolan Reimold. He worked on Adam Jones’ swing last winter and also met regularly with Robert Andino.
