Jackson Holliday passed his tests with High-A Frederick and is headed back to Triple-A Norfolk.
Let’s try this again.
Holliday was recalled from his injury rehab assignment with the Tides, worked out last Monday at Camden Yards and was shut down briefly due to some lingering soreness in his right wrist. The Orioles say it’s a normal reaction following hamate bone surgery. Players recover at different speeds.
A weekend gig with the Keys produced two hits in eight at-bats, including a double and RBI, and assurances that Holliday was ready for more games at the highest level of the farm system.
Minor league affiliate are off today. The Tides are home for a six-game series against Memphis.
Holliday went 7-for-42 (.167) in 11 games in his first stint with Norfolk.
Any changes coming to the Orioles’ bullpen weren’t going to include Yaramil Hiraldo for a significant period of time.
It might be even longer than expected before Hiraldo is ready to pitch again.
Hiraldo broke camp with the team and struck out his only batter on three pitches on March 28. He surrendered home runs in each of his next two appearances, and a total of four runs with four walks in 1 1/3 innings, and went on the15-day injured list with right shoulder inflammation.
The Orioles transferred Hiraldo to the 60-day IL on April 13, pushing back his eligibility to return to June 1. Now comes the news that he underwent a second-opinion examination today with Dr. Neal ElAttrache in Los Angeles.
Second opinions rarely bring good news, though Albert Suárez received it in September after going on the IL with a flexor strain in his right forearm. Zach Eflin was more the norm and had Tommy John surgery in April.
Relievers Andrew Kittredge, Keegan Akin and Dietrich Enns are waiting for Holliday at Norfolk as they continue their rehab assignments. The infection has cleared in Enns’ left foot, the one that manager Craig Albernaz described to media as “gnarly.”
Tyler O’Neill remains in concussion protocol but is in Kansas City to check those last few boxes. He could be reinstated before the Orioles return home. He’s eligible but waiting for approval.
Catcher Adley Rutschman is eligible to return on Tuesday from his left ankle injury.
