With a forecast calling for inclement weather, tonight’s game between the Orioles and Astros at Camden Yards has been postponed.
The game will be made up Thursday as part of a traditional single-admission doubleheader, with the opener beginning at 12:35 p.m. ET, followed by Game 2 approximately 30 minutes after the conclusion. Gates will open at 11:30 a.m.
Field Trip Day is on as scheduled for fans who purchased the special ticket package.
Tickets dated for Thursday’s original 12:35 p.m. game will be valid for both ends of the doubleheader. Tickets for tonight’s game are not valid for the doubleheader and can be exchanged for a date later this season.
This is the first postponement of the season, though the Orioles still haven’t experienced a rain delay.
Both teams get a 27th man on Thursday.
Chris Bassitt is expected to start one of the games. Brandon Young was scheduled for Thursday.
The Orioles will announce their plans later today.
Bassitt followed five scoreless innings in Cleveland by allowing five runs in 5 1/3 in Kansas City. He has a 6.75 ERA and 2.063 WHIP in five starts.
Bassitt has made 16 career appearances against the Astros and posted a 4.32 ERA in 89 2/3 innings. Yordan Álvarez is 9-for-22 (.409) with a double, five home runs and 11 RBIs against him. Isaac Paredes is 2-for-17 with a double.
The postponement momentarily cools Adley Rutschman, who has multiple hits in four of his last six games since April 10. He’s reached base in 14 of his 15 games this season.
Samuel Basallo is hitting .550 (11-for-20) with two doubles, two home runs, five RBIs, two walks and four runs over his last five starts.
Taylor Ward has drawn a walk in a career-high seven straight games, the first Oriole with a streak of that length since Anthony Santander (seven) from May 18-25, 2023.
Ward is hitting .275 or better in all counts this season, but he’s posted a .391 average and .696 slugging percentage when he’s ahead.
Right-handers Pete Lambert and Lance McCullers start for the Astros.
Lambert has made two starts this season and allowed four runs with 16 strikeouts in 11 innings. He joined the rotation on April 17 and tossed six scoreless innings in his next start in Cleveland.
Lambert has appeared in 76 major league games in five seasons and never faced the Orioles. The Rockies drafted him in the second round in 2015 out of San Dimas (Cal.) High School. Pete Alonso is 2-for-4 with a homer against Lambert.
Update: Bassitt starts Game 1 and Young starts Game 2.
