Coby Mayo is starting at third base tonight and Jeremiah Jackson is at second base, as the Orioles try to secure a series win in Miami.
Samuel Basallo came within a home run of the cycle last night and he’s serving as the designated hitter. He became the first Orioles catcher with three or more hits in the same game, including a double and triple, since Caleb Joseph on May 12, 2017 in Kansas City.
Basallo has collected at least seven hits to left field (seven), center (nine) and right (nine), showing that he’s more than just a slugger dialing long distance.
Leody Taveras is in center field tonight and Dylan Beavers is in right.
The Orioles’ .280 average on fastballs thrown at least 95 mph is the sixth-highest mark in the majors, per STATS. The Marlins rank last with a .208 average.
Brandon Young stays in the rotation for his fourth start, and third since he was recalled. He’s posted a 4.30 ERA and 1.568 WHIP in 14 2/3 innings.
Young’s average fastball velocity has climbed from 92.5 mph in 2025 to 93.8 mph this season.
Young started against the Marlins last season and allowed seven runs and nine hits, with four homers, in 4 1/3 innings. Kyle Stowers hit three of the home runs. Otto Lopez hit the other one.
Eury Pérez was the opposing starter, as he is tonight, and tossed seven scoreless innings with three hits.
Pérez has a 4.46 ERA and 1.376 WHIP this season in seven starts.
Pete Alonso is 3-for-4 with a double and home run against Pérez. Alonso doubled twice last night and has a six-game hitting streak, with four doubles, two home runs, five RBIs and nine runs scored.
Lopez has a .409 average and .682 slugging percentage this season when ahead in the count.
