SARASOTA, Fla. – Japanese pitcher Tsuyoshi Wada had fluid removed from his left elbow today and he received a cortisone injection. The Orioles will know more about his condition on Tuesday.
Wada apparently develops inflammation in the elbow every year around this time, so there doesn’t seem to be much concern.
X-rays taken today didn’t reveal anything new beyond the swelling. No structural damage.

“We’ll let it quiet down and get him back on the mound,” manager Buck Showalter said. “Talking to him, it’s something that he has about every February. It’s something he’s dealt with in the past and it goes away.”
Wada felt discomfort in the elbow Saturday during fielding practice. The Orioles shut him down today.
Showalter is happy that Wada made him aware of the issue. The communication between the two sides is good.
Also, Jim Johnson was happy with his first full-mound session. He’ll throw two more bullpens before facing live hitters.
“Everything went well. Arm felt good, legs felt good, nothing with the back,” he said.
Johnson only threw fastballs while concentrating on his timing. He might face live hitters in a week.
“Everything’s good,” he said.
Brian Roberts ran sprints with Brady Anderson. That’s encouraging.
