The Orioles can’t seem to go more than a few days without more roster movement, often times caused by an injury.
Cade Povich exited tonight’s start in Miami after only three innings. The team announced that Povich had left forearm discomfort.
Yennier Cano began to warm in the third and replaced Povich, who allowed three runs and three hits with two walks, a strikeout and a hit-batter.
Povich threw 43 pitches, 27 for strikes, before coming out of the game.
Marlins catcher Liam Hicks hit a two-run homer in the first, and former Oriole Connor Norby delivered an RBI single in the third.
The Orioles are trying to complete a three-game sweep after losing all four against the Yankees in the Bronx. They’re down 3-2 in the sixth.
Povich was making his fourth appearance and third start. The Orioles recalled him on Friday.
Tonight’s outing left Povich with a 5.12 ERA in 19 1/3 innings. He spent time on the IL last summer with left hip inflammation.
The rotation is undergoing constant changes. Trevor Rogers is eligible to return from the 15-day injured list on Monday after recovering from the flu. Dean Kremer is on the IL with a strained right quadriceps and Zach Eflin is done for the season after undergoing ligament-reconstructive surgery on his right elbow.
Trey Gibson made his major league debut Sunday in New York and was optioned.
Down at Double-A Chesapeake, Jackson Holliday is 0-for-3 with a strikeout in his first rehab game. He’s batting second and serving as designated hitter.
Update: Manager Craig Albernaz told the media that Povich will undergo an MRI on Friday.
Povich felt some discomfort outside the elbow in the second inning and it tightened in the third.
