Philley was the oldest living former Oriole.

Philley set a record with 24 pinch-hits during the 1961 season – an American League record that still stands.

Coincidentally, one of Philley’s best friends, Eddie Robinson, is now the oldest living ex-Oriole. The Orioles have summoned a bunch of position players to the Ed Smith Stadium complex for tonight’s game against the Yankees, including Buck Britton, Gabriel Lino, Cory Aldridge, Mychal Givens, Trent Mummey, Nick Delmonico, Jason Esposito and Edgardo Baez.

The Braves scored a run off Tsuyoshi Wada in the seventh inning. He allowed one hit, walked none and struck out three in two innings.

Manny Machado singled in a run in the top of the eighth, reducing Atlanta’s lead to 2-1, and he scored the tying run on an error. LJ Hoes led off with a ground-rule double.

Nick Johnson is 2-for-2 with a walk, raising his average to .348.

Jai Miller is 0-for-3 with two strikeouts. He’s fanned 17 times in 34 at-bats.
