Willis walked the first three batters he faced and threw a wild pitch. He almost escaped the jam when Jesus Flores popped up and Corey Brown grounded to second base, but the throw to first was late and a run scored.

Third baseman Mark Reynolds committed a throwing error that scored another run and extended Willis’ stay on the mound. Steve Lombardozzi flied to…SARASOTA, Fla. – Dontrelle Willis made his Orioles debut this afternoon, and his control issues weren’t left behind in Phillies camp.

Willis walked the first three batters he faced and threw a wild pitch. He almost escaped the jam when Jesus Flores popped up and Corey Brown grounded to second base, but the throw to first was late and a run scored.

Third baseman Mark Reynolds committed a throwing error that scored another run and extended Willis’ stay on the mound. Steve Lombardozzi flied to center field on Willis’ 28th pitch.

Willis threw 12 strikes, and his fastball ranged anywhere from 82-87 mph. Plate umpire Chris Segal might have squeezed him a few times, but Willis also was missing badly with other pitches.

Matt Wieters collected his fourth hit today, and his sixth RBI. His single scored pinch-runner Scott Beerer and increased the Orioles’ lead to 12-3 in the bottom of the sixth inning.

Update: Jake Arrieta allowed one run and four hits, walked one and struck out two in five innings. He retired 12 in a row before Steve Lombardozzi’s two-out single in the fifth.

Arrieta threw 72 pitches, 40 strikes.

Darren O’Day retired the side in order in the seventh, striking out one.

Willis continued to throw in the Orioles’ bullpen after coming out of the game.
