* It was 20 years ago yesterday when Rick Sutcliffe pitched a five-hit shutout as the Orioles opened Camden Yards by winning by two runs, 2-0. On Friday, they won by two runs, 4-2 as the pitching staff allowed six hits.

* The Orioles have now won five in a row and seven of their last eight meetings against the Twins. They went 6-2 versus Minnesota last year.

* With Friday’s win, the Orioles improved to 37-22 all-time on opening day. They are now 28-13 when opening day is in Baltimore and 13-4 when the game is at Camden Yards. The O’s have opened at home in 27 of the last 32 seasons.

Minnesota falls to 24-28 all-time in openers and has not won one since 2008.

* Buck Showalter is now 14 wins away from becoming the 58th manager in major league history to reach 1,000 wins. Minnesota’s Ron Gardenhire needs 34 victories to get to 900 wins.
