Adley Rutschman remains out of the Orioles lineup tonight in Los Angeles after being hit on the helmet Thursday while running to first base.

Catcher Chadwick Tromp arrived in Los Angeles to join the taxi squad, but Rutschman stayed on the active roster.

Blaze Alexander is the shortstop tonight. He’s slashing .384/.426/.545 (38-for-99) in 39 games since May 1.

Gunnar Henderson is the designated hitter. Coby Mayo is at third base. Colton Cowser remains in center field and Leody Taveras stays in right.

Left-hander Trevor Rogers has a 3.12 ERA this month in three starts. He’s allowed four runs in 10 1/3 innings in two career starts against Los Angeles.

Freddie Freeman is 5-for-12 with a double and triple against Rogers, who’s never pitched at Dodger Stadium.

Rogers has held opponents to a .223 (25-for-112) average the first time through the order, but it rises to .316 (31-for-98) the second time through and .327 (18-for-55) the third time.

Pete Alonso homered last night and has reached base safely in 11 of his last 12 games against the Dodgers dating back to April 21, 2024. He’s 14-for-43 (.326).

Taveras’ batting average against off-speed pitches has risen from .161 last season to .262 in 2026.

Closer Ryan Helsley has pitched twice since his reinstatement from the injured list and allowed four earned runs and five total in 1 2/3 innings. He’s surrendered three home runs and had his first blown save last night.

Left-hander Keegan Akin has allowed one run in his last nine appearances. Yennier Cano hasn’t allowed an earned run this month in eight appearances totaling 5 2/3 innings.

Last night marked the third walk-off plate appearance against the Orioles this season, along with May 7 in Miami (error) and April 4 in Pittsburgh (double). There’s also the wild pitch on April 21 in Kansas City.

The latest challenge comes from facing Yoshinobu Yamamoto, who’s posted a 2.52 ERA and 0.840 WHIP in 13 starts. He’s walked only 15 and struck out 80 in 85 2/3 innings.

In his last five starts, Yamamoto has allowed only four runs over 35 2/3 innings. He’s gone eight and 8 1/3 innings in his last two outings.

The Orioles remember Yamamoto for his 8 2/3 hitless innings last year at Camden Yards. Jackson Holliday homered and the Orioles rallied for an improbable 4-3 walk-off win.

Yamamoto walked 3.57 batters per nine innings at home last season but has lowered that number to 1.62 this season.

Shohei Ohtani left the team yesterday to go on the paternity list, but he’s back in the lineup tonight.

Dodgers hitters are leading the majors in average, on-base percentage and OPS, and their pitchers are first in WHIP, opponent average and opponent slugging. Maybe there’s a reason why they have the best record in baseball at 49-27.

They’ve won four in a row. The Orioles have lost five of six.
