Gunnar Henderson remains atop the Orioles order tonight, with Dylan Beavers moving up to third and playing left field.
Taylor Ward is the designated hitter. Samuel Basallo is catching.
Blaze Alexander gets another start at third base. Colton Cowser stays in center field, with Leody Taveras in right.
Rookie Trey Gibson has a 5.64 ERA and 1.648 WHIP in seven games (six starts). He was removed after four innings and 66 pitches in Anaheim, with two runs and three hits allowed and five strikeouts. Both runs scored in the first.
Chicago right-hander Erick Fedde has made 16 appearances for the White Sox, including eight starts, and posted a 4.34 ERA and 1.420 WHIP in 74 2/3 innings. He faced the Orioles on April 6, entering in the second, and allowed two runs in six frames. Henderson hit a solo homer in the sixth.
Fedde has a 3.19 ERA in nine home games this season and a 5.85 ERA in seven road games. He’s allowed four earned runs in 21 1/3 innings this month.
Fedde’s had a lot of success against the Orioles in his career, with a 1.56 ERA and 0.952 WHIP in his six appearances (four starts) over 34 2/3 innings. Pete Alonso is 8-for-24 with four doubles and six walks against him.
The day begins with the Orioles four games back in the Wild Card. A loss tonight will drop them nine below .500 for the first time this season.
They’re only a half-game ahead of the last-place Red Sox, who have won four in a row.
Last night’s loss to the White Sox was the first since Sept. 4, 2024, snapping a nine-game winning streak.
The White Sox are in first place in the Central Division, one game ahead of the Guardians. They registered one of the worst slugging percentages in the majors last season, ranking 28th at .373, but they’re seventh this season at .416.
