The Orioles are off Thursday, but manager Buck Showalter has arranged a field trip of sorts for at least nine of his players.

The Orioles are off Thursday, but manager Buck Showalter has arranged a field trip of sorts for at least nine of his players.

Showalter has made arrangements for them to tour the Sports Legends Museum at 3 p.m., feeling that it’s important for the younger and newer players to learn about the state’s sports history – and especially anything and everything involving the Orioles.

The list could grow to 15 players, with some of them volunteering to come along.

Among the names I’ve heard as possibilities are Ryan Flaherty, Tommy Hunter, Wei-Yin Chen, Pedro Strop, Troy Patton, Jake Arrieta, Chris Davis, Brian Matusz and Kevin Gregg.

Arrieta just retired the Yankees in order in the second inning. He’s thrown 37 pitches, 21 for strikes.

Showalter was asked today which reliever would close if Jim Johnson isn’t available.

“We have multiple options,” he replied. “Every club has to think about that. A lot has to do with how much they’ve been pitching and where they are physically. We have really three guys who have had some experience pitching in that part of the game.

“I’d probably step back and take a look at it from that day that I know I’m not going to have Jimmy, and that would be after the fist fight that he and I would probably have about him not being available.”

Update: The Orioles loaded the bases in the second on two singles and a walk, and Robert Andino tied the game with a two-out, two-run single to center field.

Andino fell behind, 0-2, before working the count full. He’s now 7-for-16 lifetime against CC Sabathia. He’s also batting .368 with four RBIs this season.

Ronny Paulino reached on an infield hit, making him 5-for-5 with the Orioles. The ball deflected off Sabathia’s left hand.

Update II: The Yankees loaded the bases with no outs in the fifth, but they scored only one run, on Derek Jeter’s grounder, to take a 3-2 lead.

Matt Wieters is 2-for-2, raising his average to .421.
