masn-baseballs-orioles.jpgI dug my laptop out of my trunk to file a quick blog entry on Robert Andino giving the Orioles a 3-2 lead, and it already was lost by the time I jacked the wireless password from this particular establishment.

Colby Rasmus and Yunel Escobar have homered for the Jays in the bottom of the fifth, immediately after Andino’s first home run of the season broke a 2-2 tie. However, Adam Jones just homered in the sixth to wipe out Toronto’s 4-3 lead.

Jones is 3-for-3 with two RBIs, raising his average to .370. I’ve heard some fans say the Orioles don’t have a cleanup hitter, but Jones is trying to do a spot-on impression of one.

Meanwhile, Andino is now batting .333 with five RBIs from the ninth spot in the order.

Brian Roberts isn’t on the cusp of returning to the active roster, though each day brings more encouragement, but the Orioles could eventually have an interesting decision to make regarding Andino. Manager Buck Showalter likes him as a super-utility player, but he’s stating his case to remain in the lineup on a regular basis.

Showalter has referred to Andino as becoming an “irregular regular,” meaning he’ll still get plenty of starts while moving around the infield. Left field also is a possibility.

And speaking of left field, Nolan Reimold misplayed a ball out there for his second error of the season that cost the Orioles a run. Endy Chavez clearly is superior with the glove, but Showalter wants to give Reimold regular at-bats and figure out whether he can be a full-time player at this level.

Update: Wilson Betemit just plated two runs with a two-out single in the eighth to give the Orioles a 6-5 lead.
