Orioles reliever Keegan Akin is soliciting a second opinion on his left elbow and will be evaluated by Dr. Keith Meister next week in Arlington, Texas.
Akin is on the 15-day injured list. His last appearance was June 27.
Reliever Colin Selby hasn’t pitched this season and remains on the 60-day injured list with right shoulder inflammation. He’s getting a second opinion and will be evaluated by Dr. Neal ElAttrache at the end of July in Los Angeles.
The Orioles also say that closer Ryan Helsley is continuing treatment and rehabilitation on his right elbow while soliciting a second opinion.
Tonight’s lineup includes left-handed hitting Samuel Basallo, Dylan Beavers and Jackson Holliday against Cubs southpaw Matthew Boyd.
Left-handers have hit .229 with a .656 OPS in Boyd’s career, while right-handers have hit .260 with a .779 OPS.
Manager Craig Albernaz explained his lineup as “trying to problem solve hitting left-handed pitching.”
Taylor Ward moves into the leadoff spot, with Gunnar Henderson lowered to third. Basallo is the designated hitter, Beavers is in center field and Blaze Alexander is in right. Tyler O’Neill is on the bench.
Coby Mayo is the third baseman.
The Orioles rotation has posted a 3.61 ERA since May 20, third in the American League.
