The Orioles announced that left-hander Tsuyoshi Wada has been shut down after complaining of stiffness in his neck a few days ago. He originally went on the disabled list to build up arm strength and innings after being bothered in spring training by inflammation in his left elbow.
Wada will return to Baltimore and be examined by a team physician. There’s no timetable for his return to throwing.

Wada threw 100 pitches over six innings in his second start in extended spring training, but he didn’t make it through the third inning Thursday in his injury-rehab start for Triple-A Norfolk. Wada was charged with six runs and six hits.
Wada’s stint on the disabled list will start over once he’s cleared to start throwing. In the meantime, we’ll find out later whether his current issue is related to his neck or elbow.
Being shut down and sent back to Baltimore would suggest that it’s elbow-related.
Update: Executive vice president Dan Duquette confirmed that Wada will have his left elbow examined by team orthopedist Dr. John Wickens.
Also, a tweet from MLB Radio said that Nolan Reimold won’t be in the Orioles lineup tonight because of neck spasms.

Bobby Abreu LF
Albert Pujols 1B
Kendrys Morales DH
Torii Hunter RF
Mark Trumbo 3B
Maicer Izturis 2B
