The Orioles were battered 14-0 last night in Detroit and must go through Tarik Skubal this afternoon to win the series.

It was the Orioles’ worst shutout loss since 2004 in Cleveland. They’ve allowed 14 runs or more in a shutout eight times.

The Tigers scored in all eight innings, which never happened to the Orioles until last night.

Tyler O’Neill is the cleanup hitter this afternoon, followed by third baseman Christian Encarnacion-Strand and designated hitter Coby Mayo.

Jeremiah Jackson is the second baseman. Chadwick Tromp is catching.

Left-hander Trevor Rogers has lowered his ERA to 4.17 in 19 starts. He’s posted three quality starts in a row and six out of seven. The exception is five scoreless innings in Cincinnati.

Rogers has allowed seven runs in his last seven starts over 43 2/3 innings. He faced the Tigers back on May 24 and allowed four runs in 4 2/3 innings.

Rogers has made two career starts against the Tigers and allowed four runs in 9 2/3 innings.

Matt Vierling is 6-for-16 with three doubles.

The Orioles are 2 ½ games back for the final Wild Card, with four teams ahead of them.

This might be the final start for Skubal with the Tigers. The two-time Cy Young winner is expected to be traded by the deadline.

Skubal has a 2.70 ERA and 0.922 WHIP in 15 starts, and he’s struck out 110 batters in 90 innings.

In his last five starts, he’s allowed five earned runs over 30 innings.

Skubal is 4-1 with a 1.17 ERA and 0.913 WHIP in five career starts against the Orioles covering 30 2/3 innings. He’s allowed only four runs and struck out 38.

Gunnar Henderson and Leody Taveras are 2-for-6 against Skubal.

Skubal needs one more strikeout to reach 1,000.

Dillon Dingler is batting .474 and slugging .842 against fastballs since the break, up from .248 and .424.
