Outfielder Harold Rivas, 18, is the player to be named later in the Adley Rutschman/Jake Rogers trade. The entirety of the deal is official.

Rivas batted .241/.343/.429 in 46 games in the Florida Complex League. He also appeared in 46 in the Dominican Summer League in 2025 and slashed .258/.393/.384.

MLB Pipeline ranked Rivas as Boston’s No. 13 prospect and gave him 60 grades in running, arm and fielding. He signed out of Venezuela for $950,000 in January 2025.

Pipeline wrote: “He’s an aggressive baserunner who has posted 6.5-second times in the 60-yard dash. His quickness and instincts leave no doubt that he can handle center, where his unusually strong arm for the position notched seven assists in 42 games last summer.”

Rutschman made his Red Sox debut last night, after Rogers was designated for assignment.

The Orioles have right-handers Anthony Eyanson (first) and Kyson Witherspoon (seventh) and outfielder Enddy Azocar (eighth) among their top prospects after the trade. Carlos Narváez has become their primary catcher while Samuel Basallo is on the injured list.

Last night’s 5-2 win over the Twins left the Orioles two games back again for the last Wild Card spot, tying them with the Guardians, as they wrap up the series in Minnesota.

Shane Baz tossed his first career complete game on Friday in Texas, allowing two runs and three hits and striking out nine. Baz has a 2.55 ERA in his last seven starts and a 2.93 ERA in his last 15.

Baz faced the Twins in his Orioles debut on March 29 and allowed four runs and seven hits in 5 1/3 innings. He’s allowed nine runs and 10 hits in 7 2/3 innings in his two career starts against them. The one start at Target Field resulted in five runs in 2 1/3.

Since June, Baz hasn’t surrendered a home run off his fastball or curveball.

Right-hander Zebby Matthews, an eight-round pick in 2022 out of Western Carolina University, has posted a 5.23 ERA in 15 starts. He shut out the Marlins over seven innings in his season debut May 14 and registered quality starts in seven of his first nine games.

Matthews has a 2.84 ERA and 1.158 WHIP in six home games this season and a 7.13 ERA and 1.479 WHIP in nine road appearances.

Left-handers have hit .303/.365/.534 against Matthews in his three major league seasons, while right-handers have hit .263/.302/.430.

Matthews faced the Orioles on Sept. 28, 2024 and allowed six runs and seven hits in three innings. Ryan O’Hearn and Emmanuel Rivera homered.

Leody Taveras is 0-for-3 against Matthews and Jackson Holliday is 0-for-1 with two walks. Not much of a history between pitcher and team.

*The Orioles and Rays aren’t listing their starters for the four-game series that begins Friday night at Tropicana Field.

Chris Bassitt is expected to be reinstated from the injured list. Cade Povich was optioned this week.

Gunnar Henderson snapped a career-high 18-game streak with one or no hits by going 3-for-5 with a double, home run, two RBIs and two runs scored. It marked his fifth multi-extra-base hit game of the year, and the first since July 20 in Boston.

Pete Alonso is 7-for-11 with three home runs, six RBIs, three walks and five runs scored in his last three games after going 4-for-25 (.160) with nine strikeouts in his previous seven.

The Orioles lead the majors with 29 pinch-hit RBIs, three more than the Nationals.
