BOSTON – The Red Sox might want to consider Mark Reynolds if they need a third baseman.
Reynolds has walked three times today, and he broke a 5-5 tie in the eighth inning with a two-out double to center field that scored Adam Jones, who singled, stole second base and took third on catcher Jarrod Saltalamacchia’s second error of the frame.
Reynolds saw seven pitches from Vincente Padilla, fouling off the sixth one before his RBI double.

Reynolds is 9-for-18 with four homers and 11 RBIs in his last five games at Fenway Park. He’s 5-for-9, all his hits going for extra bases, since a 3-for-33 slump.
Reynolds also committed his fifth error today, again bouncing a throw to first base.
The bullpen has been busy today. Troy Patton made his third straight appearance and gave up a leadoff double to David Ortiz in the eighth. He followed Darren O’Day, who followed Luis Ayala, who replaced starter Tommy Hunter.
Pedro Strop has replaced Patton with no outs and the Orioles leading, 6-5. The bullpen’s streak of 23 2/3 scoreless innings is in jeopardy.
Update: Saltalamacchia’s sacrifice fly has tied the game 6-6. The streak has ended, but it was fun while it lasted.
