The Orioles have gone outside the organization for another position player.

A source confirmed this afternoon that the Orioles claimed outfielder Luis Robert Jr. on waivers from the Mets.

Teams had 48 hours to take Robert after the Mets put him on outright waivers Saturday. Players must join an organization by today in order to be eligible for the playoffs.

Robert, 29, spent his first six major league seasons with the White Sox before they traded him in January. He missed about three months with a lumbar disc herniation, returning on July 20 as the Mets continued to flounder.

The Mets sought salary relief with Robert, who’s owed about $4.89 million, including a $2 million buyout in the offseason. He appeared in only 58 games and batted .223/.303/.399 with four doubles, 10 home runs and 23 RBIs.

Over seven seasons, Robert has batted .256/.312/.450 with 112 home runs and a 16.6 bWAR in 635 games. He finished second in American League Rookie of the Year voting and won a Gold Glove in 2020 and was an All-Star and Silver Slugger winner in 2023, when he totaled 36 doubles, 38 homers and 80 RBIs in 145 games.

The White Sox gave Robert a six-year, $50 million contract before he played a major league game and exercised his $20 million option in November 2025. The deal also includes a $20 million option for 2027 with a $2 million buyout.

MLB Pipeline ranked Robert as baseball’s No. 3 prospect before his debut.

Robert, who had an .841 OPS this month in 24 games, gives the Orioles a right-handed hitting outfielder after trading Taylor Ward to the Mariners and losing Tyler O’Neill to a shoulder injury. Robert has made 591 starts in center and seven in left.

The 40-man roster is full, which requires a corresponding move.

The Orioles haven’t announced the waiver claim and whether Robert is joining them today in Denver or Tuesday when rosters expand to 28 players.
