If not for Colton Cowser’s spectacular catch Monday night that robbed Jake McCarthy of a walk-off home run, the Orioles would be in danger today of getting swept by the Rockies in Colorado.

They’d also be further back than 1 ½ games in pursuit of the third Wild Card.

The Orioles and Rangers are tied after the Guardians defeated the Blue Jays last night. Toronto is 2 ½ games behind.

A win this afternoon would leave the Orioles 7-2 on the trip.

Luis Robert Jr. makes his Orioles debut, batting cleanup and playing left field. Heston Kjerstad, who flied out as a pinch-hitter last night, is on the bench again.

Jackson Holliday is the designated hitter, with Blaze Alexander at second base. Coby Mayo is the third baseman. Samuel Basallo is catching.

The offense figured to pile up runs at Coors Field but has produced only four in the first two games

Former Orioles right-hander Tomoyuki Sugano is starting for Colorado. He’s 12-8 with a 5.23 ERA in 24 games, walking 29 and striking out 75 in 125 2/3 innings.

In his last three starts, Sugano has allowed 17 earned runs and 18 total with 26 hits in only 12 innings. He was 12-5 with a 4.43 before the slump.
