Bergesen was designated for assignment on May 12 to make room for infielder/outfielder Bill Hall on the 40-man roster. He was 1-2 with a 5.13 ERA in eight games, including six starts, at Norfolk, with 45 hits allowed, 13 walks and 17 strikeouts in 33 1/3 innings.
The Orioles didn’t find much interest in Bergesen on the trade market, so they’ll keep him in the organization and return him to the Tides’ rotation.
They could use him. Norfolk has another doubleheader scheduled today, and Eddie Gamboa is listed as the Game 2 starter. Miguel Gonzalez is listed as tomorrow night’s starter, and Sunday is TBA.
Bergesen tossed five scoreless innings in his last appearance with Norfolk after rejoining the rotation. He’s 17-24 with a 4.68 ERA in 83 major league games.
Also, infielder Miguel Tejada remains at extended spring training.
“He needed more time and at-bats in Florida this week, so we’ll evaluate him at the end of the week,” said executive vice president Dan Duquette.
