Orioles manager Buck Showalter, being interviewed by MASN play-by-play man Gary Thorne after tonight’s 8-6 loss to the Blue Jays, indicated that right fielder Nick Markakis might have injured his wrist late in the game.
Showalter mentioned a possible injury after Thorne asked whether the roster was set for at least the next few days. Pressed to identify the player, Showalter said Markakis “tweaked” his right wrist while taking a swing in his last at-bat.

Showalter mentioned a possible injury after Thorne asked whether the roster was set for at least the next few days. Pressed to identify the player, Showalter said Markakis “tweaked” his right wrist while taking a swing in his last at-bat.
Markakis lined out to right fielder Jose Bautista in the ninth inning after J.J. Hardy’s leadoff single, making him 1-for-5 and leaving his average at .256. Adam Jones followed with his second home run of the night to complete the scoring.
The Orioles already have made 36 roster moves involving 20 different players in the month of May after today’s flurry, which included Tommy Hunter and Xavier Avery being optioned to Triple-A Norfolk. Showalter is hoping that Markakis won’t force another transaction.
Markakis’ wrist was being checked after the game, and he’ll be re-evaluated tomorrow when he reports to Rogers Centre, where the Orioles will try to avoid being swept in this three-game series.
Markakis has started all 50 games this season, including 48 in right field. He’s twice served as the designated hitter.
