Birdland mural project details announced for 2022 season

MASN-Orioles-Logo

The Orioles today announced plans for the latest mural installations as part of the Birdland Murals series, powered by PNC Bank. The murals will be featured at Oriole Park at Camden Yards and in the Waverly neighborhood, near the location of old Memorial Stadium on East 33rd Street and are expected to be completed by the end of next week. The collaboration highlights Baltimore’s vibrant arts community and allows Orioles fans to experience the incredible talents of several local artists.

“We are thrilled to build upon our partnership with PNC Bank to continue to support local artists and to highlight the importance of the arts in our communities,” said JENNIFER GRONDAHL, Orioles Senior Vice President, Community Development & Communications.

“PNC Bank is again honored to sponsor these important works for the benefit all Oriole baseball fans and the Baltimore community in general,” said LAURA GAMBLE, PNC Regional President for Greater Maryland. “These murals are a window to Baltimore’s celebrated past and shine a light on the future of our great city.”

The Oriole Park mural, which will be located near Legends Park and the Bullpen Picnic Area, will be created by globally renowned artist LOGAN HICKS. The mural will depict a bustling Eutaw Street, celebrating the more than 72 million fans and visitors Oriole Park at Camden Yards has brought to downtown Baltimore since the ballpark opened in 1992.

A Baltimore native, Hicks graduated from the Maryland Institute College of Art in the early 1990s. He is known for his impressive and hyperrealistic multi-layer stencils. Hicks creates stencils based on pictures. His works typically have more than five different layers, cut out piece-by-piece and painted one on top of each other. The result is hyperrealistic art showing urban situations in an exceptional nocturnal light. His work was featured as a part of the opening of Urban Nation Museum in Berlin, Germany in 2017.

Orioles start last August road trip as the push for the postseason continues

Fans

Scoreboard watching also includes the Home Run Riches winnings tally — now at more than $126,000.

The Baltimore Orioles will head to Houston this weekend to take on the American League’s best team so far this season — the beginning of a six-game road trip to close out the month of August. This time of year is when baseball fans start to do a lot of scoreboard-watching, as teams spend the last several weeks of the season jockeying for playoff spots. That means every game counts, especially for the Orioles, who are in the thick of the hunt for a wildcard playoff berth. The O’s begin the weekend 2 ½ games behind the Seattle Mariners for the final wildcard spot, and the Minnesota Twins and Chicago White Sox are nipping at the Birds’ heels, both just 2 ½ games behind Baltimore.

The games are also meaningful to the hopeful Contestants of the Game participating in the Lottery’s Home Run Riches Bases Loaded FAST PLAY second-chance promotion. Those lucky few who have been selected are watching their own scoreboard as the Orioles' powerful offense has notched 129 home runs to date, providing needed support for the team’s starting pitchers and awarding more than $126,000 in prizes for the Lottery’s Contestants of the Game.

There is still time for you to be selected for an upcoming game. The Lottery’s final Contestant of the Game drawing for 2022 will be held on Aug. 30, selecting the winners for games in September and October.  To enter, submit any winning or non-winning FAST PLAY Home Run Riches Bases Loaded ticket purchased between March 7 and August 29 into your My Lottery Rewards account. Not yet a member of My Lottery Rewards? Click here to start your free account today!

The $5 FAST PLAY Home Run Riches Bases Loaded game was introduced to coincide with the 2022 Orioles’ season. The ticket has instant prizes ranging from $5 to $5,000 and a progressive jackpot that starts at $40,000 and continues to grow with each ticket sold until a jackpot-winning ticket is sold.

  • Intraleague Games
    • 64 total games (32 home games and 32 away games) against non-divisional league opponents (decreased from 66)
    • Clubs will play six games against six league opponents, and seven games against four league opponents (previous format was reversed with six games against four league opponents, and seven games against six league opponents)

    • Clubs will play a home and home series against their natural rivals (four games total)
    • Clubs will play 42 games against other interleague opponents, including seven series (21 games) at home and seven series (21 games) on the road
