Orioles host Play Ball Days, presented by Nike

As part of Major League Baseball’s Play Ball campaign, the Orioles will host a series of Play Ball Days, presented by Nike, at four local Maryland Title I schools, impacting more than 2,100 children. Events will take place throughout the week from Monday, June 6, through Thursday, June 9, and will not be open to the public. Play Ball Day is an Orioles-themed field day event for elementary and middle school aged children, designed to grow the game of baseball and inspire recreational play among underserved communities.

Members of the Orioles Orange & Black Gives Back employee volunteer program, as well as front office staff and mascots of our Minor League affiliates will be on hand in their respective communities to assist with the events. For more information, visit Orioles.com/PlayBall

Nationals recall Andres Machado

The Washington Nationals recalled right-handed pitcher Andres Machado from Triple-A Rochester and placed left-handed pitcher Josh Rogers on the 15-day Injured List with a left shoulder impingement on Friday. Nationals President of Baseball Operations and General Manager Mike Rizzo made the announcement. 

Machado, 29, joins the Nationals for his third Major League stint this season. In 10 relief appearances during the month of April, he recorded a 2.45 ERA (3 ER/11.0 IP) with eight strikeouts, five walks and held opposing batters to a .211 average (8-for-38). Machado has pitched to a 5.40 ERA with 10 strikeouts and seven walks in 12 games out of the Nationals’ bullpen this season. He has provided scoreless relief in five of the 12 outings.

Rogers, 27, has pitched to a 5.13 ERA in 16 games (three starts) for the Nationals in 2022.

Vespi, Nevin recalled

Orioles name Eve Rosenbaum Assistant GM

ORIOLES NAME EVE ROSENBAUM ASSISTANT GENERAL MANAGER

The Orioles today announced that EVE ROSENBAUM has been promoted to Assistant General Manager, Baseball Operations. Rosenbaum will oversee roster management, transactions, financial planning, and Major League operations and administration, while continuing to play a key role in player evaluation and acquisition across the pro and amateur markets. She will also advise and assist Executive Vice President and General Manager MIKE ELIAS and Vice President and Assistant General Manager, Analytics SIG MEJDAL in all baseball operations decisions and departmental management.

Rosenbaum most recently served as the club’s Director of Baseball Development, a role she had held since joining the Orioles organization in November of 2019. In that role, she was responsible for developing and implementing evaluation methods and digital tools for use across all facets of baseball operations, serving as a conduit between the organization’s scouting, player development, and research and development departments.

 Prior to joining the Orioles, Rosenbaum spent five seasons in the Houston Astros organization, most recently serving as the club’s Manager of International Scouting. She also worked for the National Football League from 2012-15 as a Junior Rotational Program Member and as Manager of Business Intelligence and Optimization.

 Rosenbaum is a native of Bethesda, Md. and attended Harvard University (Mass). She earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology with a minor in philosophy, and was a catcher on the Crimson varsity softball team. In November 2021, Rosenbaum was inducted into the Greater Washington Jewish Sports Hall of Fame. She currently resides in Baltimore.

O's to recognize National Gun Violence Awareness Day

The Orioles will join our nation in recognizing National Gun Violence Awareness Day on Friday, June 3. As part of the recognition, the Warehouse will be illuminated in orange, all uniformed personnel will wear orange jerseys throughout the weekend, and all online and in-store sales from Orioles Authentics will benefit Moms Demand Action. The Orioles Charitable Foundation will match 100 percent of Orioles Authentics sales from the weekend.

The Orioles will conduct a moment of silence prior to the game in memory of those who have lost their lives to gun violence, and to show support for organizations working to enact stricter gun legislation.   

Founded after the Sandy Hook tragedy in 2012, Moms Demand Action fights for public safety measures that can protect people from gun violence by passing stronger gun laws and working to close loopholes that jeopardize safety. For more information, visit MomsDemandAction.org.

RHP Rivera comes from Scott-Sulser trade with Marlins

The Orioles have made the following roster move: 

  • Received RHP Yaqui Rivera as the player to be named later from the Miami Marlins to complete the LHP Tanner Scott and RHP Cole Sulser trade.

Rivera, 18, was originally signed by the Marlins on January 28, 2021, as an international free agent out of Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. He made 12 starts between the DSL Marlins and FCL Marlins in 2021, pitching to a 3.69 ERA (16 ER/39.0 IP).

Nationals recall Lee and García, put Escobar on IL

The Washington Nationals announced the following roster moves on Wednesday. Nationals President of Baseball Operations and General Manager Mike Rizzo made the announcements.

  • Recalled left-handed pitcher Evan Lee from Double- A Harrisburg
  • Recalled infielder Luis García from Triple-A Rochester
  • Placed shortstop Alcides Escobar on the 10-day Injured List with a right hamstring strain
  • Optioned right-handed pitcher Francisco Pérez to Triple-A Rochester

Lee, 24, went 0-3 with a 3.60 ERA in seven games (seven starts) for Double-A Harrisburg, striking out 37 batters in 30.0 innings pitched. He opened the season strong, pitching to a 1.86 ERA (4 ER/19.1 IP) and a .182 opponents’ batting average (12-for-66) through his first five starts. Lee is Washington’s No. 17 prospect according to MLBPipeline.com and the No. 20 prospect, per Baseball America.

In 2021, Lee ranked among Nationals Minor Leaguers (min. 70.0 IP) in strikeouts per 9.0 innings (3rd, 12.2), opponents’ batting average (3rd, .239), home runs allowed per 9.0 innings (3rd, 0.70), fielding independent pitching (3rd, 3.60), groundball rate (4th, 47.8%) and strikeout-to-walk ratio (5th, 3.25). Lee went 4-3 with a 4.32 ERA in 21 games (20 starts) for High-A Wilmington. He was named High-A East Pitcher of the Week (Sept. 21) after tossing 6.0 shutout innings with one hit and seven strikeouts on Sept. 2 at Brooklyn.

Lee, a two-way player (LHP/OF/1B) at the University of Arkansas, was selected in the 15th round of the 2018 First-Year Player Draft. He is the 22nd pitcher drafted, signed and developed by the Nationals (2005-pres.) to start a game for Washington. He is 7-8 with a 3.79 ERA, 186 strikeouts and 68 walks in 42 career Minor League outings across four professional seasons.

García, 22, joins the Nationals after recording a .314/.368/.531 slash line with six doubles, four triples, eight home runs, 32 RBI, 16 walks, one stolen base and 39 runs scored in 42 games for Triple-A Rochester. He ranked in Washington’s system in triples (2nd, 4), batting average (3rd, .314), home runs (3rd, 8), RBI (3rd, 32), slugging percentage (3rd, .531), OPS (3rd, .899), runs (3rd, 39), extra-base hits (4th, 18) and on-base percentage (8th, .368). García was named International League Player of the Week on April 18 after leading the league in hits (14), batting average (.519), and total bases (23) across six games from April 12-17. He recorded five multi-hit efforts in those six games.

Nationals select the contract of Jordan Weems and recall Francisco Perez

The Washington Nationals announced the following roster moves on Tuesday. Nationals President of Baseball Operations and General Manager Mike Rizzo made the announcements.

· Selected the contract of right-handed pitcher Jordan Weems
· Recalled left-handed pitcher Francisco Perez from Triple-A Rochester
· Optioned right-handed pitcher Andres Machado to Triple-A Rochester
· Designated right-handed pitcher Austin Voth for assignment

Weems, 29, went 2-1 with six saves and a 3.38 ERA in 19 games for Triple-A Rochester. He struck out 32 batters and walked just five in 24.0 innings pitched. His six saves ranked second among Nationals Minor Leaguers. In 11 outings dating to April 30, Weems struck out 23 batters while walking just two in 14.1 innings pitched.

Weems has appeared in 16 Major League games across two seasons with the Oakland Athletics (2020-21) and Arizona Diamondbacks (2021). He made his Major League debut with Oakland in 2020, pitching to a 3.21 ERA (5 ER/14.0 IP) with 18 strikeouts in nine games.

Perez, 24, joins the Nationals for his third Major League stint this season. He has pitched to a 2.51 ERA with 21 strikeouts, four walks and a .189 opponents’ batting average in 15 games for Triple-A Rochester this season.

Rockies-Nationals postponed on May 27

Due to very severe weather predicted to move into the area this evening, MLB has approved the postponement of tonight’s game. 

The game will now be played on Saturday, May 28 at 12:05 PM as part of a split doubleheader.  Saturday’s originally scheduled game will begin at 6:05 PM.

Tickets and parking passes for tonight’s game will be honored at the 12:05 PM game tomorrow.

The Orioles today announced the return of the Birdland Summer Music Series, presented by Miller Lite, which includes three postgame concerts at Oriole Park at Camden Yards throughout the summer. This year’s lineup is highlighted by performances from Grammy-nominated rapper FLO RIDA on Friday, June 17; popular 90s artists, including Baltimore’s own DRU HILL, with special performances from SISQÓ and Platinum-selling SMASH MOUTH as part of the on-going celebration of the 30th anniversary of Oriole Park at Camden Yards on Saturday, August 6; and British rock band THE STRUTS on Saturday, September 10.
