According to ESPN Stats and Info and Elias Sports, the Orioles are the 28th team since 1903 to start 7-0 or better. Five of those teams went on to win the World Series, including the 2015 Kansas City Royals.

Chris-Davis-gray-close.pngWe’ve seen just about all parts of this team contribute so far: the starting pitching, especially the first few games, the offense coming on now, the bullpen and the defense throughout. The Orioles are 7-0 and Adam Jones has started just two games, J.J. Hardy missed a game and Kevin Gausman hasn’t made a major league appearance.

They are 7-0 with just one quality start from the starting rotation, which has pitched to an ERA of 3.74. But O’s starters have worked five innings or fewer in four straight and six of the seven games on the season. Yes, this will need to get better going forward.

Hardy had quite a night, hitting not one but two homers near Pesky’s Pole. The total distance for both was 666 feet. He drove in five runs, his most since another five-RBI night on Sept. 11, 2012. It was his 12th career multi-homer game and first since Aug. 8, 2014 against St. Louis.

Chris Davis, who had five RBIs on Monday, seems to continue to make at least one very tough defensive play every game, sometimes two or three. His defense has been outstanding so far.

In the series, the trio of Davis, Hardy and Trumbo is 10-for-25 (.400) with two doubles, five homers, 10 runs and 15 RBIs. They’ve driven in 15 of the Orioles’ 18 runs in Boston.

“Seemingly, every pitch that we mislocated, they have not missed in the two games so far,” Red Sox manager John Farrell told reporters after the game last night.

It is going rather well, indeed, so far, and today the Orioles look for their first three-game sweep at Boston since Sept. 8-10, 2014. Since 2012, the Orioles are 48-29 (.623) versus Boston and they are 25-15 (.625) at Fenway Park.
