With a rainout thrown in, it felt like it had been a while since the last Orioles game. They finally played again last night and Adam Jones' two-run single in the ninth provided a 5-3 win at Minnesota.
The victory was the Orioles' eighth in the last 12 games and they are now 19-12. They tied a season-high going seven games over .500. They ended a five-game losing streak at Target Field. A year after going 0-7 versus the Twins, they are 4-0 against Minnesota.
A few more notes on the latest O's victory:
* Jones had driven in four runs over his previous 19 games and then he drove in three last night. Despite a batting average of just .210 for the year, Jones is batting .350 (7-for-20) when batting with runners in scoring position. He is batting .500 (5-for-10) when hitting with runners in scoring position and two outs.
* Jones homered in the fifth inning. According to Statcast, the exit velocity was 109.5 mph with a launch angle of 30 degrees and the ball traveled 453 feet. That is the 13th longest home run measured via Statcast this season.
* Manny Machado went 3-for-3 and is now batting .365. He is 5-for-7 the last two games with three homers and seven RBIs. Machado began the game batting just .240 in 12 road games. He is now batting .283 away from Camden Yards.
* The Orioles improved to 10-6 in games decided by one or two runs. They are 4-0 versus the Twins in such games with wins by 3-2, 4-2, 4-2 and 5-3.
* Machado and Jones homered back-to-back in the fifth inning. It was the fifth time this year and second game in a row the O's did that.
* The Orioles are now 5-1 in games that are tied after eight innings. They have outscored their opponents 10-4 in the ninth inning.
* Mark Trumbo went 1-for-5 with a double in the fourth inning. He has reached base in 23 consecutive games, the longest current streak in the majors.
* Zach Britton recorded the save in the ninth on just nine pitches, the fewest pitches he has needed this year for any of his eight saves.
* The O's have homered eight times the last two games. Before that they had hit just one homer in the previous four games and three in the last six contests.
