Manager Buck Showalter has stated that it’s up to the team to determine when Machado can start playing in games. Official word won’t come from Dr. Neal ElAttrache’s office.

Showalter said the Orioles could wait until the March 29 exhibition game in Norfolk to decide whether Machado is on the opening day roster or goes on the disabled list. Showalter said the Orioles could wait until the March 29 exhibition game in Norfolk to decide whether Machado is on the opening day roster or goes on the disabled list. They would likely use him only in minor league games in order to further backdate a DL assignment.

Update: ESPN.com reports that ElAttrache lifted all physical restrictions on Machado.

Infielder Alex Gonzalez has undergone an endoscopy and colonoscopy on the advice of doctors following his physical. He hasn’t been available to play, but may appear in Friday’s game against the Braves in Sarasota.

“I could play him if I wanted to,” Showalter said. “I don’t even know what they’re looking at. I don’t think it’s any of my business. I’m not trying to hide it, but Richie (Bancells) said, ‘You could play him if you wanted to.’ But until this gets cleared up, I’m not going to take any chances.”

No roster cuts tonight.

The Orioles held a meeting at noon today to discuss the roster, and Showalter noted how everyone is “on the same page” and knows where decisions must be made.

Showalter indicated that the Orioles are more likely to go with a 12-man staff.

Showalter said he will try to get Mychal Givens into the game for an inning tonight. Givens, a second-round pick in the 2009 First-Year Player Draft, has made the switch from shortstop to pitcher.

Outfielder David Lough is expected to play the last four or five innings.
