The feeling here is Tommy Hunter could be optioned to Triple-A Norfolk if Jason Hammel is cleared to start on Monday. Otherwise, manager Buck Showalter will have to tweak his rotation again.

Reliever Stu Pomeranz would be the other possibility.

Unless something changes, the Orioles won’t transfer second baseman Brian Roberts or pitcher Zach Britton to the 60-day disabled list to clear a spot on the 40-man roster, which indicates that a player will be designated for assignment.

Outfielder Nolan Reimold had an epidural injection this morning, and he’s no longer projected to begin an injury-rehab assignment in the minors on Monday. He was eligible to come off the disabled list on Wednesday, but that’s not going to happen.

Tsuyoshi Wada underwent ligament-reconstructive surgery on his left elbow today, and the Orioles are waiting for Dr. Lewis Yocum to update head athletic trainer Richie Bancells.

Outfielder Endy Chavez will stay with the Orioles through the rest of the homestand before reporting to extended spring training in Sarasota. Reimold could join him.

Britton is still scheduled to make his next start in Sarasota on Tuesday. His third start was supposed to occur on May 21, since games aren’t played on Sundays, but the Orioles might arrange one to keep him on four days’ rest.

Chris Tillman was in Baltimore yesterday in case the Orioles needed to add another pitcher for Game 2 of their doubleheader. He’s rejoined his Norfolk teammates after the Orioles managed to avoid making another roster move.
