Manager Buck Showalter said Tsuyoshi Wada could make two more starts after today, though he’ll have to get creative and do some maneuvering to make it happen.
The Orioles still view Wada as a starter right now.
Nick Markakis’ next start in right field will come Thursday against the Yankees.
Asked about his leadoff candidates beyond Nolan Reimold and Endy Chavez, Showalter said Robert Andino could do it “in given situations,” and Rule 5 pick Ryan Flaherty would be a possibility on occasions if he makes the team.
Jake Arrieta will hasn’t been told whether he’s the opening day starter April 6, but that’s the assumption around here. Showalter is close to making an announcement, though he won’t do it today.
Arrieta will be working on six days’ rest when he starts Saturday against the Pirates in Brandenton, so he threw a bullpen session this morning and will do some long tossing. He’d be working on five days’ rest for the opener.
I’ll post some quotes from Arrieta and Showalter in my next entry.
