Paredes also could play first. Shortstop is included on his resume, but it’s “a little bit of a stretch,” Showalter said.

Catcher Alex Murphy, the Orioles’ sixth-round selection in 2013 out of Calvert Hall, will undergo surgery on his left shoulder next week. He suffered the injury while diving into a base.

Murphy will miss instructional league, but he should be ready for spring training.

The Yankees lost to the Tigers today 3-2 and trail the Orioles by 6 1/2 games in the American League East.

The Orioles haven’t lost consecutive home games since June 28-29.

The club’s bullpen has posted a 1.65 ERA in the last 31 games since July 24, lowering its season ERA from 3.49 to 3.05.

The Diamondbacks claimed former Orioles outfielder Nolan Reimold off waivers from the Blue Jays.
