Manager Buck Showalter must decide between Zach Britton or Jake Arrieta for Thursday’s game against the Yankees.
Hardy and Brian Matusz will report to the minor league complex in Sarasota, Fla., tomorrow.
Showalter indicated that Cesar Izturis and Robert Andino could share the shortstop duties while Hardy is sidelined.
Showalter has Matt Wieters and Jake Fox in the lineup today. So who’s the third catcher?
“He may not know it yet,” Showalter replied with a grin. He’s not giving away any names.
Showalter said pitcher Rick VandenHurk would have been an emergency catcher, since the right-hander has some experience behind the plate.
