No action in the Orioles’ bullpen, though Kevin Millwood is up to 99 pitches through five innings. He’s allowed six runs and seven hits, walked four and struck out six.
Ty Wigginton just singled to score Julio Lugo and cut the Yankees’ lead to 6-3. Interim third base coach Gary Allenson sent Lugo, though a few people in the press box doubted the wisdom. I wasn’t one of them.
Matt Wieters has two singles and an RBI. This is the hardest I’ve seen him hit the ball in a while.

Maybe that rest did him some good.
Update: Millwood probably lasted longer than the Orioles’ dugout expected after his first three innings. He’s charged with six runs and 10 hits in 5 2/3, with five walks and six strikeouts. He threw 119 pitches. Frank Mata retired Alex Rodriguez with the bases loaded and the count full to complete Millwood’s line.
Stephen Strasburg’s 14 strikeouts are third-most for a pitcher making his major league debut since 1920.
His curveball is so nasty, my knees keep buckling.
Triple-A Norfolk’s Robert Andino has homered and driven in four runs tonight.
Double-A Bowie’s Chorye Spoone improved to 5-5 with a 3.80 ERA by shutting out Binghamton on four hits over six innings in Game 1 of a doubleheader.
Single-A Frederick’s Jacob Julius hit a three-run homer, and Joe Mahoney has knocked in two runs.
Any chance that Julius is nicknamed “Orange?”
