The Orioles’ five-game win streak ended as they lost for just the second time in nine games and third time in 14 games.

Brandon Snyder, the Orioles’ first-round pick in 2005 out of a Virginia high school, homered and drove in six runs to lead Texas, which improved to 19-10. Brandon Snyder, the Orioles’ first-round pick in 2005 out of a Virginia high school, homered and drove in six runs to lead Texas, which improved to 19-10. Snyder had a two-run single to break a 0-0 tie in the second and three-run homer in the sixth to give Texas a 7-0 edge. He added an RBI single during a Rangers seven-run ninth inning against Jason Berken.

Snyder had played sparingly so far for his new team, batting .357 with one homer and one RBI in 14 at-bats entering the game.

Texas went 5-1 against the Orioles last year, outscoring Baltimore 46-17 with a team average of .343 in those six games.

Brian Matusz took the loss tonight to fall to 1-4 with an ERA of 5.91. He allowed 10 hits and seven runs over five plus innings after giving up just one earned run over 12 1/3 innings in his previous two starts.

Stu Pomeranz, added to the Orioles roster today from Triple-A Norfolk, pitched three scoreless innings in his major league debut. He gave up three hits with one walk and two strikeouts and threw 48 pitches.

The Orioles fall to 19-10 overall, 8-5 at home and 30-16 since last Sept. 12. The Orioles are now 5-5 in the first game of a series and tonight’s game is the start of a four-game series and nine-game homestand.

A win tonight would have given the Orioles their first stretch of 12 wins over a 14-game stretch since September 1999.
