A 9-3 loss to the Pirates tonight assures the Orioles of finishing below .500 on this nine-game, three-city road trip. During his interview that aired on MASN, Jeremy Guthrie told reporters that he felt very comfortable. The back wasn't an issue, and neither was an adjusted throwing schedule leading up to tonight's start. What hurts is the 2-9 record.

Brad Bergesen was nailed on the right side of his back by Jose Tabata's liner in the eighth inning, but he took a few warm up tosses, nodded his head to manager Buck Showalter and assistant athletic trainer Brian Ebel, and continued to pitch. The ball missed his shin and his right arm, so his luck must be changing. "He said it stung pretty good," Showalter told reporters, "but he's OK." Bergesen was charged with three runs and four hits in 1 1/3 innings. The sinker just doesn't consistently sink like it used to, and the Orioles are trying to figure out how to fix it.
