His blast wasted another night of excellent O’s starting pitching.

After he gave up A-Rod’s first homer in a 34-pitch second inning, Kevin Millwood didn’t look long for this game. But the right-hander settled down and needed just 44 pitches over the next four frames.

The O’s were looking for their fourth win in their last five games vs. New York and are now 7-2 in their last nine games vs. the AL East.

Over the last six games, O’s starters have given up just three earned runs with an ERA of 0.74 and those starters are now 5-0, 1.61 over the past ten games with nine quality starts.

The O’s tied the game at 1-1 in the 3rd on a Nick Markakis sac fly. Adam Jones’ homer off A.J Burnett gave the O’s a 2-1 lead in the 4th and was his 19th to tie a career high. Robert Andino’s line drive homer to left in the 7th gave the O’s the 3-1 edge.

Jim Johnson pitched out of a two on, one out jam in the 8th before A-Rod grabbed the headlines in the top of the 9th and Mariano Rivera got the save in the last of the inning.
