Orioles pitchers have issued 10 walks today.
I’m pretty sure most teams tend to lose when that happens.
Starter Ubaldo Jimenez was responsible for five free passes in 2 1/3 innings. Reliever Brad Brach issued five in two-plus innings.
Oakland scored three runs in the top of the fifth to take a 10-0 lead. On only seven hits.
Twice today, the Orioles walked Oakland’s 7-9 batters in succession – Jimenez in the third and Brach in the fifth.

Twice today, the Orioles walked Oakland’s 7-9 batters in succession – Jimenez in the third and Brach in the fifth.
The 10 walks are the most by the Orioles since a July 20, 2010 game against the Rays. The Orioles actually won 11-10 in 13 innings.
Jake Arrieta (four), Jason Berken (two), Will Ohman (one), David Hernandez (one) and Alfredo Simon (two) were control challenged that day. Koji Uehara didn’t walk a batter in 1 1/3 innings and got the win.
If you’re wondering about the last time that the Orioles issued 10 walks in a nine-inning game, it was Sept. 13, 2008 in Game 1 of a doubleheader against the Twins, a 12-2 loss.
Daniel Cabrera (five), Brian Burres (three), Simon (one) and Bob McCrory (one) were the pitchers who spent the day chasing the plate.
T.J. McFarland replaced Brach today, as manager Buck Showalter has been forced to use both of his long relievers. Will the Orioles bring up a pitcher for Monday night’s game against the Red Sox?
It’s too soon for Preston Guilmet, Tim Berry and Evan Meek, who haven’t been down for 10 days. A player would need to go on the disabled list.
The only healthy eligible pitcher on the 40-man roster is Suk-min Yoon, who started Thursday for Triple-A Norfolk.
The Orioles could clear a spot on the 40-man by transferring pitcher Johan Santana to the 60-day disabled list. But this is speculation. The Orioles may avoid making a move.
We’ll see.
Today’s attendance: 38,244
Update: Josh Stinson has been scratched from his start today at Triple-A Norfolk. Left-hander Chris Jones will replace him.
The Orioles could purchase Stinson’s contract for Monday’s game. He’s 0-3 with a 5.19 ERA in nine games with Norfolk.
Stinson hasn’t pitched since June 3. Fresh arm.
J.J. Hardy committed his fifth error in the last four games. The Orioles still trail 10-0 in the eighth.
