The Orioles trailed 4-0 after the top of the second. Kansas City scored four times in that inning as Jeremy Guthrie needed 42 pitches in the frame. Guthrie gave up five runs (four earned) over seven innings today, throwing 106 pitches in a no decision.
Nolan Reimold hit the first of his two homers today, a solo shot, in the last of the second. An inning later, after a Mark Reynolds RBI single, Reimold hit a three-run shot which gave the Orioles a 5-4 lead.
It was his first multi-homer game in the major leagues and the first by an Oriole since Josh Bell hit two off Cliff Lee, then of Texas, last Aug. 21. Reimold hit six homers in 139 Triple-A at-bats and hit three in his first nine O’s at-bats.
As they now head to the West Coast, the Orioles have won a season-high five in a row. They improved to the .500 mark for the first time since May 1 and are now 24-24.
This was the Orioles’ first three-game home sweep of the Royals since April 2007.
