Manny Machado is scheduled to play for the Keys tonight to begin his rehab assignment.
The rain started here around 3 p.m. just as Machado was taking some ground balls at third base before batting practice, which was later canceled.
It appears that the gates will open at 6 p.m. on schedule and that any decision on a possible rainout will not come until much closer to game time.
The outlook doesn’t look great as the rain has been pretty steady the last hour or so. There is no chance of a makeup doubleheader this weekend since tonight is the last scheduled game of the current series with Myrtle Beach and a new team, Carolina, comes in for a scheduled 2 p.m. game tomorrow.
Machado is scheduled to bat second and wear uniform No. 31 tonight. He is scheduled to play with the Keys through the weekend, so fans will have another chance to see him here if this game does not get played.
Machado is scheduled to talk with reporters sometime around 5 p.m. so check back for some quotes from Manny later today.
