While waiting for Nick Markakis to announce that he wants to manage…
I’m sorry to inform you that I’ll be attending tonight’s game at Camden Yards.
I miss one, just one, and the Orioles blow out the Marlins. I can’t help but feel responsible for everything that’s gone wrong this season.
Don’t worry, I’m not interviewing for the manager’s job.

I’ve been asked about Adam Jones possibly tweaking his back last night. I wasn’t there, and I’m sitting at my kitchen table in Sykesville this morning, so don’t expect any updates until later today. But he didn’t mention it during his post-game interview.

Another good sign: He was standing at his locker for the post-game interview.
Jones is on a tear – the good kind – with 11 hits in his last 21 at-bats and six home runs in June. His average is up to .272 with 11 homers and 30 RBIs.
What’s the secret?
“Just swinging the bat,” he said. “Nothing was going right, but the thing I kept saying was, ‘You’ve got to keep swinging.’ That’s all you can really do.”
Well, and making contact.
Backup catcher Craig Tatum has gone 10-for-25, including a career-high three hits last night, to raise his average to .262.
Didn’t see that coming from a catch-and-throw guy.
It should be a fun weekend, with the Orioles celebrating the 40th anniversary of the 1970 world championship team. Takes us back to much better times.
Also makes me wonder how they lost in ’69 and ’71.
Oh well, it’s a dynasty in my head and heart. And I’m sure many of you feel the same way.
