The Orioles should have known that they’d be in for a rough game tonight when Jimmy Paredes was hit on the right side of the face during batting practice, a grounder from Steve Pearce taking a bad hop at third base.
Paredes is fine. The Orioles… not so much.
Bud Norris was charged with nine runs and six hits in 2 1/3 innings, with three walks, two strikeouts and a home run. His ERA ballooned to 17.42 in three starts this season.

Norris was 4-0 with a 1.78 ERA in five starts against the Blue Jays last season, and you know how he handled the American League East. Well, he’s posted a 28.70 ERA in two starts against the Blue Jays in 2015.
The lack of results in spring training mostly were a curiosity. I’d say it has become something else in the regular season.
The nine runs allowed by Norris tonight ties his career high.
Edwin Encarnacion homered against Norris and Brian Matusz tonight. In case you missed it, Matusz is the Orioles’ long reliever, which makes you wonder whether the Orioles will need to make a roster move before Wednesday’s game.
Rule 5 pick Jason Garcia is pitching in back-to-back games after replacing Matusz in the sixth inning with the Orioles down 11-3. All of a sudden, you can’t get him off the mound. Two appearances since April 10.
Orioles starters have gone 3 2/3, 5 1/3, five, 4 1/3 and 2 1/3 innings on the road trip. Ubaldo Jimenez’s ridiculous ejection wasn’t his fault, of course, but the rotation is scuffling.
The Orioles committed three errors yesterday and have been charged with two tonight. And they’ve made other mistakes in the field.
There’s something about the Blue Jays that bring out the worst in Travis Snider in right field. He’s better than what we’ve seen in these matchups. I was ready to award him a Gold Glove in the opening series at Tropicana Field.
Caleb Joseph has another hit tonight and is batting .371, but he also committed an error and is 0-for-6 throwing out runners attempting to steal after cutting down 40 percent of them last season.
Adam Jones is 2-for-3 to raise his average to .451. He’s 9-for-13 against the Blue Jays this season.
I wonder if he can pitch. He might be needed.
