Jones homered off Rockies starter Jhoulys Chacin with Chris Davis on second base and two outs to increase the Orioles’ lead to 3-0. He launched an 81 mph slider after Chacin started him off with a fastball.

The significance goes beyond the scoreboard.

Jones has reached the 25-home run mark for the third time in his career. The only other Orioles…Center fielder Adam Jones didn’t want the Orioles relievers to be bored, so he deposited a ball at their feet in the bottom of the third inning.

Robinson reached the milestone in 1966, 1967, 1969, 1970 and 1971. I don’t believe that he ever blew a bubble on the field, however.

Jones hit 25 homers in 2011 and 32 in 2012. He’s got 25 homers and 89 RBIs this season.

Jones is the seventh Oriole to hit 25 or more home runs in three or more seasons, joining Robinson (five), Lee May (three), Rafael Palmeiro (four), Boog Powell (five), Cal Ripken Jr. (eight) and Eddie Murray (10).

Update: Scott Feldman is shutting out the Rockies on two hits over six innings, with two walks, three strikeouts and two wild pitches – both in the sixth after Corey Dickerson walked with one out.

Feldman has thrown 79 pitches, 47 for strikes.

Feldman had a 7.66 ERA in four starts at Camden Yards this season. He’s lowering it today.

The Orioles are 2-for-9 with runners in scoring position and have stranded seven runners through five innings. They continue to lead 3-0 in the bottom of the sixth.

Update II: Feldman allowed two runs and five hits in 6 2/3 innings, with two walks, three strikeouts and two wild pitches. He threw 101 pitches, 62 for strikes.

The Rockies scored twice in the seventh, and Feldman left the game after No. 9 hitter DJ LeMahieu singled with two outs.

Tommy Hunter retired Dexter Fowler to strand the tying run.
